Mark Rumans, MD
Chief Clinical Consultant
Dr. Mark Rumans is the Chief Clinical Consultant at SullivanCotter. With over 30 years of experience as a practicing gastroenterologist and key physician leader, Mark uses his unique background to coach health care organizations through transformational change in the new, value-based environment.
By understanding how to support clinical performance drivers across all segments of the workforce, Mark advises clients on how to better align compensation, performance and other people strategies with their unique business needs.
Mark’s experience includes:
- Creating staff policies and implementing operational practices to create overall organizational alignment and drive performance during the transition to value-based care.
- Developing successful intersections for initiatives such as population health, clinical quality and patient safety with organizational culture, engagement, performance and development to effectively implement plans for change.
- Restructuring and integrating diverse medical groups to ensure a cohesive approach to team-based care.
- Advising compensation committees in the development and implementation of physician recruitment, contracting, expectations, performance, behaviors and compensation, resulting in high levels of engagement and lower-than-average turnover rates.
Prior to joining SullivanCotter, Mark was the Chief Medical Officer for Vidant Health in Greenville, North Carolina. He also served as the Physician in Chief at Billings Clinic, Montana’s largest health care organization, with a provider network of over 400 physicians and advanced practice providers.
Mark is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Gastroenterological Association and the American College of Physician Executives. He also served as an external board member for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana and United Way of Yellowstone County.
With his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington, Mark also holds a Master of Medical Management degree from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
