Physician Design Practice Leader

Courtney Dutton is the Physician Design Practice Leader at SullivanCotter. She is nationally known for her expertise in advising large organizations on physician compensation and performance strategies.

After more than 12 years working exclusively in this arena, Courtney represents SullivanCotter as the Chair of the Large Clinic™ Group, a 45-year-old independent affinity group comprised of the largest medical organizations in the U.S. In this role, she helps lead the firm’s efforts to design and manage customized research, host an annual conference, as well as cultivate relationships with and among these organizations.

Courtney’s consulting experiences include:

  • Designing and implementing physician compensation programs that support organizational goals and help physician groups align with a competitive market and a transforming financial framework.
  • Aligning compensation strategies for all internal stakeholders, including executives, physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs) and all employees to ensure clear direction and consistent accountability for the whole health care organization.
  • Helping define physician performance criteria – for a single specialty up through all physicians in an organization – balancing quality outcomes, cost efficiency, patient satisfaction and physician engagement, as well as driving organizational success and competitiveness.
  • Leading benchmarking reviews and analysis of physician total compensation packages, including productivity, salary ranges, incentives and benefits.
  • Conducting fair market value assessments to defend organizational compliance in independent litigation cases and in front of the Department of Justice and the Office of the Inspector General.

Previously, Courtney consulted on physician compensation issues at a national audit, tax and consulting firm and held positions in human resources at a bio-tech company.

A Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Courtney is a member of the WorldatWork organization and the Twin Cities Compensation Network (TCCN). She is a frequent speaker on Health Care Trends and Best Practices that Influence Physician Compensation.

Courtney holds a Bachelor of Arts in business administration with a concentration in human resources from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.
