 My name is Hadley Powless. I’m a Consulting Manager here with the firm. I’ve been with SullivanCotter for two years, and I’m also an advanced practice provider myself. I’m a PA. I’ve been a PA for seventeen years, working mostly in clinical and leadership roles. Along with serving as essential health care team members, APPs are also increasingly present in leadership roles across the health care landscape.

Our 2024 APP Compensation and Productivity Survey reported that 74% of health care organizations have an APP leader, with the majority at the clinical level. This is an increase in approximately 10% from the year before. The same survey, including data from approximately one hundred and thirty-four thousand APPs, found that leaders accounted for approximately three percent of the entire workforce.

Creating APP leader positions offers numerous benefits for health care organizations, APP themselves, and ultimately patient care. Our data shows that by having APP leaders in an organization, APP turnover is decreased by 2% overall. As we all know, provider turnover is expensive for APPs. The direct cost of turnover to the organization is upwards of $120,000.

So this statistic alone proves the return on investment for APP leaders. By creating these positions, health care organizations can leverage the full potential of their advanced practice workforce, leading to improved patient care, enhanced team dynamics, and greater overall efficiency
