Sally A. LaFond, JD

Managing Director

Sally LaFond is a Managing Director in the Executive Workforce Practice of SullivanCotter. With over 20 years of providing consulting and advisory services, Sally advises complex academic and integrated health systems, community hospitals, and other tax-exempt organizations on all aspects of executive compensation.

She leverages her holistic point of view, deep knowledge of compensation governance and legal expertise to design executive compensation programs that align with organizations’ strategic goals and help them compete for talent in the ever-changing marketplace.

Sally’s experience includes:

  • Developing compensation philosophies, executive total reward programs and leader performance metrics that work together to complement organizations’ current and future strategies.
  • Designing executive annual and long-term incentive plans that produce the desired leadership behaviors and performance.
  • Developing executive contract, retention and severance arrangement terms in support of executive talent strategies to assist with leadership continuity, stability and transition.
  • Leading total compensation assessments and evaluations to determine reasonableness, competitiveness and alignment with organizations’ missions and strategic objectives.
  • Advising organizations going through mergers and acquisitions with a special emphasis on compensation program harmonization and optimization.
  • Providing boards and senior leaders with education and insight on industry best practices, current and emerging trends and regulatory compliance related to executive compensation to ensure they make informed decisions within the context of a transforming industry
  • Preparing formal opinion letters regarding the reasonableness of compensation provided to disqualified persons of not-for-profit 501(c)(3) and (c)(4) organizations.

Prior to joining SullivanCotter, Sally practiced law with a multinational law firm. She also served as a senior leader in a regional, not-for-profit executive compensation consulting firm. With a Bachelor of Arts (summa cum laude) in business and psychology from Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore, Sally earned a Juris Doctor with honors from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, also in Baltimore.
