Jeffrey Softcheck is a Principal at SullivanCotter in the Executive Workforce Practice. He is an expert in health care measurement and analytics, helping health systems set targets, drive sustainable change and achieve key performance indicators, such as quality of care, mortality, patient safety, and financial metrics.
Over the past 25 years, Jeffrey has worked for health care analytics firms and within clinical health care organizations to establish a proven track record of both defining and achieving strategic, goal-driven success.
Jeffrey’s experience includes:
- Developing and optimizing internal data assets, as well as the plethora of external public data sources, to identify areas of opportunity and initiate committees and projects to maximize outcomes.
- Designing comprehensive long- and short-range quality plans focused on incremental, sustainable improvement within health systems.
- Improving communication strategies between functional (quality, strategy, finance and operations) and clinical departments to promote positive work groups and drive clinical improvement.
Prior to joining SullivanCotter, Jeffrey held a number of quality and strategic planning roles at various prestigious health systems, including Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He also held key positions at Sg2, an industry authority on health care trends, insights and market analytics, and at Truven Health Analytics, a leader for more than 40 years in delivering unbiased information, tools, benchmarks and services to the health care industry.
In recent years, Jeffrey has published “Associates Between Hospital Characteristics, Measure Reporting, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings” and “The New CMS Hospital Quality Star Ratings, The Stars Are Not Aligned,” both in the Journal of American Medical Association. He has also spoken at national conferences on various topics, including what it takes to achieve consistent, reliable quality performance as a health system.
Jeffrey holds bachelor’s degrees in actuarial science and management from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. He earned a Master of Business Administration from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, and is working on a master’s degree in predictive analytics at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
